[SOLVED] Z-Wave Door Sensor Shenzen Neo: No XML-File generated

Hi everybody,

i am running Openhab on a Raspi3 for several month. I use bindings for Homegear, Yeelight, Fritz, Z-Wave… But now i have a little problem with a door sensor from Shenzen Neo GC00AM NAS DS01Z.
System: Raspberry Pi 3
OS: Raspbian Jessi, dist-upgrade every week
Openhab 2.1.0 release build
Z-Wave-Stick: Aeotec AEOEZW090-C Gen 5
Z-Wave-Devices: 2x PAN11 Smart EnergyPlugSwitch, 1x Shenzen Neo Power Plug => it works

I have tried a 6-month old installation of Openhab2, then switched to snapshot 3 weeks ago, went back to stable release 2.1.0 with a fresh installation of the Raspi. But every time the door sensor was included there was no XML-File generated. It can be easy included and excluded.

As the sensor is a battery device i have pushed the button for updating a lot of times. Brought the Raspbi very near(5 cm) close to the sensor, get away 1m, but no XML was generated.

Did anyone got this sensor working?
Any other hints other than throwing in the trash and buy a fibaro ;.)

I do have it and works fine… they way it works for me is…
First add a thing… it should be in the inbox… add it to your things… then wait a few seconds… and press again three times the button on the sensor… wait a little bit and should be recognized… if not try again and press one more time the button for 3 times… give it some time… if not… reboot OpenHab…

good to know that you brought the sensor to live, but 3 times button pressing should start the in/exclusion-Mode. Anyway, i will try today evening. thanks. Any hints are welcome

There is no wakeup showing in the log above. Maybe this log doesn’t contain everything, but based on this I would say it’s not waking up.

I have checked the entire log with the ZWave Log Viewer and there is no sign of waking up for Node 6


today evening i will push the button hard to get a wake up sign…

Finally it works! Pushing the button in many different combinations brought a wakeup, XML-File and finally ONLINE in Openhab2. Many thanks!

I do get binary reports in the zwave debug log when I open/close sensor but no XML file is generated. I tried the button press 3 times but still no joy.

I picked up a few of these really inexpensive. Zstick links to them and you have (I think) a db entry but no xml file generated. Also it doesn’t report the manufacture

Probably you need to wake up the device so that it can complete the initialisation. If it doesn’t wake up, then the binding can’t communicate with the device.

Chris it seems to be awake because open and close events show in the log.

If device sends events why can we manually register it?

There’s a difference between the device being awake and it sending open/close events. Battery-powered devices generally are not “awake” when they send these events. A device is only awake when it wakes up on a set wake up interval (although some devices to not wake up by default), or when it is manually woken up. Manually waking up a device is typically performed by some sequence of button presses as defined in the device manual. Some devices need to be woken up multiple times in order for them to complete initialization.

Strange thing is if the device sends events…why ignore them? Seems system would be more user friendly this process could be simplified to just allow the events and let the system operate.

They aren’t ignored, but they aren’t usable for communication with the device. ZWave battery devices sleep most of the time. When they are ready for the controller to send data TO them, they send a WAKEUP notification. If they are just notifying that the temperature has changed, or the door has opened, the notification is different and it’s not possible to send data TO the device.
