I would tend to agree the hardware appears to have a problem.
You could revert the driver and setup Zigbee2MQTT as a double check. As for what works see below.

Actually I tried the conbee app which showed me the same result - no connection. I think I will replace it, and give it a try with the Conbee III USB dongle.
