Aeotec Multisensor 6 temperature units doesn't stay set

Thank you, that did it! I totally missed that I needed to add that information into the items file.

Looks perfectly ok to me :slight_smile:

this thread helped me get my stuff working 2
had the regional location language ect set but item configuration off
thanks for help

Thank you! This solved the issue for me. :slight_smile:

Number:Temperature on my OpenHab 2.4 system causes Basic UI to crash when accessed with a Java null pointer exception. I’ve been trying to solve the occasional jump to Fahrenheit on my Multisensor 6.

Chris

That’s odd. So, if you change the item from Number:Temperature to just Number, Basic UI doesn’t crash?

Can you post the complete item definition, as well as the NullPointerException that was thrown?

That is correct. I reverted to just Number and it no longer crashed. Here’s the log

So, this one?

Number Sensor_FF_FR_Temperature "Family Room [%0.1f °C]" <temperature> { channel="zwave:device:59995961:node8:sensor_temperature" }

Just to see what happens, could you try changing it to this (drop the 0 before the dot)? I’m not sure at all if this will make a difference, but it’s worth trying just to see if anything different happens.

Number:Temperature Sensor_FF_FR_Temperature "Family Room [%.1f °C]" <temperature> { channel="zwave:device:59995961:node8:sensor_temperature" }

Or possibly this?

Number:Temperature Sensor_FF_FR_Temperature "Family Room [%.1f %unit%]" <temperature> { channel="zwave:device:59995961:node8:sensor_temperature" }

OK I tried the %unit% with the 0.1f and it was the same. I at first thought it was the %unit% that was causing the problem (i.e. perhaps it was null) but changing it back didn’t help, so Temperature was the problem.

I don’t know what to say. I have many items defined exactly like that (example below). The only difference is that there’s no 0 preceding the dot in [%.1f %unit%].

Number:Temperature  WS8482_Garden5SoilTemperature
                    "Garden 5 Soil Temperature [%.1f %unit%]"
                    <temperature>
                    { channel="ambientweather:ws8482:ws8482:remoteSensor5#soilTemperature" }

Got a different error now - although I think is from Paper UI maybe. Anyway, neither are crashing completely after changing from 0.1f to .1f but neither are functional. Will restart and see what happens.

OK After a restart I’m back to the null pointer exception and Paper UI is working fine. Just Basic UI is a problem. The Android app is working, but reports that it is 71C in the room I’m sitting in right now. This from the browser (Chrome).

What are you using for your sitemap?

sitemap default label="Sullivan sitemap"
{
    Frame label="Occupants" {

        Switch      item=Presence_Mobile_Chris label="Chris's Note 8"
    }

    Frame label="Basement" {
        Text   item=UPS_B_LR_Battery label="UPS Battery [%d %%]"
        Text   item=UPS_B_LR_Status label="UPS Status [%s]"
        Text   item=UPS_B_LR_Voltage label="UPS Line [%d V]"
    }

        Switch item=Wallplug_FF_FR_FloorLamp label="Family Room Floor Lamp"

        Text   item=Sensor_FF_FR_Temperature label="Family Room [%.1f C]"

        Text   item=Wallplug_FF_LR_DeskLamp_Voltage label="Living Room Desk Lamp [%.1f V]"
        Text item=Wallplug_FF_LR_DeskLamp_kWh label="Living Room Desk Lamp [%.1f kWh]"
    }

    Frame label="Second Floor" {
        Switch item=Sensor_SF_MBR_Motion label="Master Bedroom Motion Sensor"
        Text   item=Sensor_SF_MBR_Humidity label="Master Bedroom Humidity [%.1f %%]"
        Text   item=Sensor_SF_MBR_Luminance label="Master Bedroom Luminance [%.1f]"

        Switch item=TV_SF_MBR_Power label="Master Bedroom TV Power"
    }
}

Since you have labels in the Items, there’s no need for them in the sitemap. If you choose to continue to use them, [%.1f C] should be [%.1f °C] or [%.1f %unit%]. Using %unit% will use your system settings for the unit. Hopefully that cleans up the error!

Good catch!

That was it. Thank you so much for your help. I had been wondering why I was supposed to replicate labels in the sitemap as it seemed rather tedious. I’ve fixed my mistaken assumption now and it is all good. It even exposed an exception due to the 0.1f which I guess was not showing previously because it was overridden by the sitemap.

I suspect I won’t see any 70C temps in the family room from now on. I can now move forward in my implementation and break something else!
