Aeotec Zwave bridge can not be found - scanned, added manually

Hello,

I know there were numerous thread regarding this, but most of them are not really helping me.
So I just installed a fresh OH 4.1.2 and set all my devices which were actively running fine on OH 3.x
During the setup i had installed the Aeotec 5 Zwave bridge and have added about 25 zwave devices.
After the install and config has been done, I’ve moved the RPI 4B to it’s final location into the rack cabinet.

Since that time I’m not able to locate the Zwave devices because the bridge went offline.
I’ve tried to restart the system several times and have unplugged and basicly have tried to plug the zwave stick to all possible usb ports.
As I have just deleted the old zwave bridge hoping to add it again and after a while it will sort out things, now I’m not even able to add the device properly to OH.

Scanning for Zwave things gives zero result.
If I’m trying to add the device manually the port is always empty, no auto fill or drop down bow is appearing.
If I try to enter the data manually it still does not work.

I have tried to check for possible usb and serial port issues but did not really had the success location the issue so I’m seeking for your advice.

As far as I can see the device does not show up in the USB ports…
If I plug the device into my Windows PC it gets detected and I have an extra serial port added in the controls…

It seems to be a Rpi4 issue first. Did you restart the Pi with the stick plugged in? Is there any message during the Pi startup that would indicate an issue? Using dmesg.

There was also an issue with some Aeotec5’s on Rpi4 needing a usb2 hub in-between to work properly.

I have restarted the PI without the stick in it and also with the stick plugged in. It was not working in either cases.

dmesg shows:

Strange is that I was using USB 3.0 1st and it did detect the device automatically…

Any

Not an expert, but agree the zstick is not being discovered. I can only suggest the intermediate hub as something to try.

I also vaguely recall something in the openhabian menu about serial sticks, but I thought that was related to permissions (and you are not getting that far). However, maybe take a look through the menus?

Hi all
I have a similar problem.
in my case I installed a powered USB extender via ethernet cable, because the RPI is on the ground floor and instead the zwave stick and the UPS are on the first floor.

I noticed that when I detach the zstick from the hub to add or remove a device, when I go to insert it again, the RPI doesn’t recognize it.
when this happens I go and unplug the USB receiver near the RPI and reconnect it to another USB port, the zwave stick is recognized again

IIRC there is an issue with power management on RPi 4s and you might need to use a powered USB hub to plug the controller into the RPi instead of plugging it into the RPi itself directly.

Do you stop everything before unplugging and restart it after plugging it back in again? If not then a lock is retained on the device file (e.g. /dev/ttyAMA0) and that file remains in existence. Then when you plug the dongle back in again it shows up as the next file /dev/ttyAMA1 since /dev/ttyAMA0 already exists.

Note that unless you have particularly old Zwave devices, you should not need to unplug the controller at all for inclusion. You can initiate a network wide inclusion by initiating a scan for zwave devices.

Maybe we should have “Stickies” like HA does?
