I know it is a bit off topic in a openhab forum but I’m going to ask anyway
I’m setting up to Amazon Fire HD 10 2023 as wall tablets with fully kiosk browser as app and there I run a Main UI sitemap.
So far so good - everything works as designed.
But as soon as I disable Internet for my tablet in my router it stops loading also everything is in my local network. Disabling the internet works for other devices without any problems.
Hi, which router?
I had something similar. No network connection with locked internet.
I created a new profile in my fritzbox router and set ‘filtered internet’. only whitelisted sites can be viewed. But I don’t whitelisted any site and the network connection was there again.
Maybe it helps you.
Hi,
my Router is a Orbi RB 750, don’t say nothing I hate them too! But I wanted to stick with them until FRITZ!Box offers full wifi 7 and gets affordable.
The only two options I found where Block Internet, which works fine for my tasmota devices and my HIKVISION cameras, or set up a parental Control profil and block Internet for the profil, of course i added the tablet to the profil.
What i also tried is wifi settings on my Tablet and Switch to static do get rid off the first DNS which is Set to 8.8.8.8 and replaced it with my Router ip.
I also disabled Most of Amazon Apps and tried to Block ota via Fire toolbox.
I cannot really help, but think with Amazon devices you will never get happy if you want to avoid unwanted internet traffic …
I installed some time ago pihole and recognized that up to 2/3 of my internet traffic was initiated by my Echos / Alexa Apps.
I have seen that pihole blocked about 90% of the traffic which means that was unwanted traffic coming from the devices itself.
I guess there are running a lot of services under the hood.
So in my opinion best would be to have just tablets you can root and install an open source OS.
If only that is the case it would be ok for me, but because I live in an third world country (Germany), were “Internet ist Neuland” internet outages are normal and I wanted to be sure the tablet and all of its functions remain if the internet is broken.
OK, I just tried it the hard way and pulled the plug on my modem from Kabel Deutschland - openhab also registered straight away that the internet was gone - the Amazon Fire tablet still works, so it actually seems to be able to distinguish whether I cut off the internet connection in the router or whether the internet is actually gone.
I don’t know how, but OK, as long as it works
