Apt upgrade, now [ERROR] [ternal.service.BootFeaturesInstaller] - Error installing boot features

• Java Runtime Environment: OpenJDK17
• openHAB version: 3.4.4

Just performed an apt update, apt upgrade. openHAB is no longer running

I have updated to OpenJDK 17 via openHABian config, but no luck.

Logs below, any ideas on what I can try to get it back working? many thanks.

Stable upgrade will be openHAB 4 which was released yesterday. If you want to stay with openHAB 3, you need to downgrade to Java 11 again.
Furthermore the keys expired yesterday and need to be updated.

Would anyone have any advice on how to downgrade to v3? Thanks.

It’s difficult to say what effect there will be, downgrading from 4.0 to 3.x but from the Docs:

openHAB on Linux

i.e.

sudo apt update
apt-cache showpkg openhab
sudo apt install openhab=3.4.4-4

Don’t forget to switch back to Java 11.

Thanks for the info. Have had a bit of a nightmare with it today. I attempted to run the above install command, but it would not work as it said I had a broken install. It instructed me to run ‘apt --fix-broken install’ and this completely broke the system and created an endless reboot

Fortunately, I had a full image backup from Jan, this seemed to restore ok, but then would not boot. So ran the Debian setup and reinstalled the GRUB boot loader from the setup.

All it working (phew!), and running ‘sudo apt install openhab=3.4.4-4’ has given me the latest version 3!

Just a bit concerned that if I run the apt upgrade to update other packages, it’s going to upgrade to openhab 4, which I do want, but only when I have time in case I run into issues again!

You can tell apt to exclude openHAB from upgrading

If you want to stay with 3.4 use "apt-mark hold openhab"

Just noticed that OpenHAB 4.0.0 is now suggested as an upgrade with APT in Armbian. Accepting the suggested upgrade would now install OH 4. If you are like me and want to wait for a few dot releases before you take the step to 4.0, you can use apt-mark to “freeze” your OpenHAB version at 3.4 while you still can upgrade the rest of your system sudo apt-mark hold openhab Should do the trick.

You can do an upgrade on the command line telling apt which packages to upgrade.
Doing the upgrade on the command line you always can check which packages would be upgrade doing an upgrade before executing it.

My weekly update script let me jump into this mess too. But

sudo apt-get install openhab=3.4.4-2
sudo apt-get install openhab-addons=3.4.4-2

worked for me.
