Automatically removed quote of whole previous post

I don’t know exactly where posts about the forum itself belongs, but this was the best I could find at the moment.

There is a function in the forum that automatically edits posts that quote the full previous post and removes the quote. I guess it’s there to save space. But, the problem, as I see it, is that it’s hard to remember to always quote just a part, and if you forget it, there are no link to what you reply to. If you instead click “reply” on a post, the post won’t be quoted, but it will still show a reference to the post you’re replying to. The “automatic quote removal” doesn’t retain any link to the post you reply to, which I find unfortunate.

It doesn’t look like a “native” Discourse function, so I’m guessing that it’s done by a plugin of some sort. If so, are there any configuration options, so that it would potentially be possible to retain the reference to the post one is answering?

I’m not sure if I understand your problem. Yes, it is correct that if you reply to a post, this is not again quoted as this does not make much sense. Instead, at the top right of your post there is the “load parent post” button, which will expand the post that you’ve replied to, so that you can see the full thread. This should be the “ink to what you reply to” that you are looking for, isn’t it?

If I click “reply” to the post like I did now, the reference is there (or at least it use to be).

If I quote the post instead, the quote is removed, and as far as I can tell, so is the reference.

Edit: Great example - now it behaves quite opposite of what it usually does. Maybe the quote wasn’t removed because there was an imagine included?

This post is an example of what I mean - I quoted the previous post, and it seems to “lose the reference” when the quote is deleted:

I’d assume that if you reply to the last post on a topic, no link will be shown since the one you reply to is just visible above. Only if you reply to something older, it adds the link. Just a guess, though.

FWIW, we do not have any specific plugins installed, so I would say that this is the default Discourse behavior.

If there’s no plugin, there’s nothing to configure, so nothing can be done anyway I guess. I don’t think this only happens when I quote the last post, but won’t swear to anything.
