Best smart plug 16A?

Hi folks,

I’m looking for a good smart plug 16A that can power on/off but also measure the energy consumption.

I need to substitute my Qubino Smart Plug 16A zwave. I’m open to another zwave device (I didn’t see anything compatible with 16A) or a different solution.

thanks for sharing
Andrea

I have good experience with both Aeotec and Fibaro ZWave smart plugs. But it probably depends on what country you live in whether they have the right model for you national socket type.

as far as I know, Fibaro doesn’t support 16A, only 10A

You might look at Shelly, they have some 16A products.

Not a plug but a switch capable of 40A. Not sure if that would fit for you as well. Note that I don’t have any experience with the device.

actually I need to monitor the energy consumption of my oven and my microwave.

For most of my energy monitoring I use aeotec home energy zw monitors. There are a couple of models. They went up in price but I found some old models on eBay. There is no switch, but a coil around the wires at the circuit breaker. Our oven can draw 3500 watts (7000 with both top and bottom on). The microwave can draw 2000 watts. I tried a zooz plug on the microwave but the surge on startup tripped it, so it didn’t work. Don’t know if any of this is applicable to your needs.

I have one of these which I use to control pool pump (15amp) and it works well

Not a plug in itself, but to be built in into a wall socket.

Have you seen/looked for “Nous A1T” or “Nous A1Z”?
You can use it with Tasmota or Zigbee2MQTT.

I’ve got this sucker to control a 16a HWS, ensuring it only runs when the sun is shining.

Works well; very occasionally the wattage won’t report a change and it gets “stuck” at the high end, so I have a rule that zeros it out when the current drops instead. Beyond that little quirk, I’ve found it to be a solid unit.

If I understand correctly, there’s a ring-shaped sensor that goes around each of the active and neutral wires, is that right?

Yes.

Actually a coil goes around each hot leg. Please be careful working in a hot panel. The only way to de-energize those legs is to pull the meter out.
