Cat microchip reader

Hi

Does anyone know about some hardware that can read my cat’s microchip and get the data to openhab. I want to get a signal when he is in the car box so I can send out the vacuum 10 minutes after.

The implanted animal identification microchips require special readers. I know of none available for smart home use and the range to detect the RFID micro chip is extremely limited…

Even if you find a reader which you can buy and somehow feed the data into openhab, it won’t work…
Basically it needs to be that close to the chip that you (almost) have to touch its skin with the reader.
So just placing it somewhere im the box, wont work.
I think your best bet is to look for smart cat door manufacturers, maybe one of it has some kind of universal scanner/indoor locator…

Actually here is a company that uses the micro chip for their pet door. They also have a separate reader.
