Configuration via paper ui, do i need items in paper ui?

  • Platform information:
    • Hardware: CPUArchitecture/RAM/storage raspberry pi3 B+
    • OS: _Buster
    • Java from apt package openhab
    • openHAB version:2.5.0
      My question is , when i setup openhab and have all the things discovered with paper ui and running.
      Do i then still need to discover items also or is that not necessary ?

Things can be discovered but Items need to be created. Items are generally how you interact with Thing Channels.

You need Items to use in any user-facing UI and in any rules you may create.
