Discourse Reactions

I’m very uncertain if this is the correct place to post this, but I see that there are some posts here with somewhat similar topics, so I’ll give it a go. Feel free to move it to a more appropriate location if it exists.

“Spamming the forum” is discouraged, you are encouraged to combine different replies in one post, edit instead of creating new posts, and there’s a hard limit on 3 concurrent posts in a thread by the same poster. In all, it seems clear that the desire is to avoid a lot of brief posts with things like “OK”, “Got it” etc.

At the same time, I often find that there’s a need to give some kind of feedback to other users that I agree (or disagree) and that I’ve read what they wrote. The only way to sort of do this today is by using the like/heart, and I’ve probably already “stretched that” quite a bit in how I’ve used it, but there are many situations where it would simply be nonsensical to use that (I don’t expect that the other poster would interpret a like/heart as what I intend to signal). I really like the “thumb-up” on GitHub (and in chat applications etc.), I frequently use that for such purposes. But, there’s no such option on this forum.

It turns out that there’s an official Discourse plugin that does just this:

I would hereby suggest that enabling this plugin is taken up for consideration. I think it would be very helpful.

I totally second that. It always bothered me only to have a heart when i just wanted to agree. So, yes, I would love to have that.

Great suggestion, @Nadahar!
I have to upgrade the Discourse version the next days, I’ll use that opportunity to then also install this plugin - so stay tuned.

I see that all of you were forced to give a “heart” to my post.

Reactions are now enabled - try it out on this post, if you like!
And if you are lacking a specific reaction that you think should be there, feel free to mention it here.

Should this also work on a mobile phone? I see the reactions but I cannot find a button to add my own using an iPhone?!

On touch screens long press the heart.

I had to clear cookies to get into the forum after the upgrade. What was strange was that before I did that, it took me to a “maintenance page” indicating that the forum was down for maintenance.

I tried a different browser and got in - and then after clearing “site data” and logging in again, I was finally able to get here. I was just very confusing that the “old site data” made the “maintenance page” appear. Could it be that it had simply been cached by the browser?
