Error occurred while checking the system module

  • Platform information:
    • Hardware: Intel i7 10th GEN processor / 16GB RAM / 221GB storage
    • OS: 64 bit Operating System. Windows 10 Version 1909
    • Java Runtime Environment: Java 14.0.1
    • openHAB version: 2.5.5
  • Issue of the topic: I tried to open openhab for the first time and when I ran start.bat it said “Error occurred while checking the system module” I tried opening it from both file explorer and command prompt and it didn’t work. I created the JAVA_HOME system variable and made sure to save my openhab download on the C drive in the openHAB2 folder.

From command line try C:\openHAB2\start.bat and not changing to the openhab2 directory first.

Just a guess though as I have never installed OH on Windows. :upside_down_face:

Just tried that and it did the same thing

I downloaded a different version of Java (Java 8) and changed the JAVA_HOME system variable to that and now its working

Ahh, I see in OP that you were using java 14. I should have noticed that and pointed you to the doc’s that mention to use Java 8. :upside_down_face:
