Event based rule with timer sometimes not working

Hello,

I have a rule that has been working for months most of the time - i. e. average 6 days a week. In detail, I have the rule below that is to close the blinds 20 minutes after the CivilDusk event. Although the CivilDusk event starts every day, sometimes just nothing happens or the blinds go down some minutes to several hours later or not at all. All happend on OpenHAB 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3.

It seems like the timer is not working sometimes.

I have no imports in my rules file, does that matter?

Can anyone tell me what I do wrong?

You’ve got some helpful logInfos there. but not told us when you see them (or not).

Is Rollladen a Group? Some technologies do not cope well with a rapid burst of commands to group members.

I would add some space around the square brackets having seen reports that OH2 can be picky sometimes

Thanks for the hint.
Yes, “Rollladen” is a group of 17 blinds. If the rule starts i see the logInfos, but if the rules does not run I do not see the logInfo. So, i just answered at least one question by myself: it looks like I cannot blame the timer anymore!

This means you can have no more than 6 instances of Rules executing at the same time. Yes, for example some days ago the rule failed to close the rollershutters in the evening. So the first logInfo before the timer started appeared at 12:11 on the next day and the second logIngo 20 minutes later at 12:31!

And I checked the CivilDusk event on a day the rule did not start: it definitely started at the right time. So it is not the Astro event to blame.

Well, I am not using the Threas::sleep command but the suggested createTimer command!? Do you think the problem could be the same anyway?

So, I collected now several options to improve the behaviour:

• add some blank spaces into the code
• do not use a timer? I could add a global delay of 20 minutes to the CivilDusk range event!?
• instead of shutting the group of 17 rollershutters at once shut down a smaller group, of maybe 2-4, followed by a delay and the next group?

But the last two options do not seem to have an influence as the rule does not get triggered!?

In the openhab log I found several errors, I am not sure if they have to do anything with my problem. Looks like some Java errors:

The references to sleep (and other long running actions) are about underlying causes of a rule not getting a thread to run in. These underlying causes are not found in the rule that doesn’t run, but in other rules, so the idea is to review your whole setup.

As you can see the once-a-day trigger event in the log, and the rule does indeed get triggered and run - albeit after a long time - there is certainly a queue involved (as distinct from ‘missed’ trigger events).
I’d be confident you have something hogging resources.
