I just ran across this paper. It looks interesting from a presence detection perspective. I don’t think the paper is detailed enough to reproduce but someone who is smart on these things might be able to do something with it. The problem in the paper is actually harder than I think would be necessary in a HA situation. They were identifying individuals walking in a hall. A usable HA use case would be to just detect that a person is present, not which individual.
