Things are accelerating here. Besides Thread, the CHIP consortium is defining application layers for smart home.

Will these developments be open for OpenHAB add-on implementations, or will there be fundamental issues?

The reference implementation of „Connected Home over IP“ is written in C/CPP so some one would need to write an abstraction for it in Java or create a pure Java implementation of it. Then it could be implemented as a OH addon. This should be possible since it uses „universal“ IP as basic transport.

But I’m unable to find any concrete documentation of the implementation details other then the reference implementation it self.
