Google Nest YAML script editor

Google has launched a YAML editor for Google Assistant routines, allowing more complex conditions than the simple routines you could build in the Google Home app up until now.

I think this is a necessary step to make home automation more accessible to consumers. I doubt it’ll ever be as sophisticated as openHAB or HA, but it’s a viable option for anyone who doesn’t want to build and maintain their own server. Heck, I’d already consider it to be better than SmartThings.

At the same time, it’s a bit of a head-scratcher since Google has reportedly deprioritized Google Assistant in favour of working on Bard. Maybe it’s an attempt by the GA team to increase their value, or maybe they’re just trying to get it out the door before they all get reassigned.

I think they gave up trying to guess what consumers want and they just gave us their tools
