there is / has been a lot of discussion about mDNS functionality in this thread which is much more recent:
I had problems between the end of April until last weekend. Since my openHAB installation was not updated during this period, I strongly believe that the problem was caused by an OS update. The problems started after I received an OS update and disappeared after another one. So my understanding is that the problems should be independent of openHAB and a router. It’s just a guess, but updating the OS as soon as possible can’t be wrong. I appreciate feedback if anyone has had the same experience.
apparently, using openHABs mDNS service should save memory resources. It should work the same way, as the underlying mDNS library is the same. But there are some issues discussed in the linked thread, therefore the author made it optional to use it (switch).

- make use of openHAB mDNS service instead of creating a new separate mDNS insta… nce only for Homekit maybe it will solve #9773.
- remove use of IP address configuration as it cannot be used with Java-HAP if mDNS service is provided
- remove global settings for minimum and maximum temperature. They are not used anymore and also were not mentioned in the binding documentation. Instead of global min/max can be set now at item level.

one of the recent PR has introduced the logic to re-use mDNS service of openHAB … instead of creation of a new mDNS instance just for HomeKit. this should reduce the memory footprint.
however, this change led to some connection issues, especially if openHAB runs in a docker container.

this PR
- makes this mDNS re-use logic configurable and disable by default.
- fix inconsistency between README and settings. some settings are not available anymore, other like bridge name were missing, the default value were different
- fix some wording as requested in #10227
