Homematic HM-ES-TX-WM not working properly

Hi everyone,
i have a new device to track the power usage of my household. I installed everything properly and inside the CCU2 everything seems to be fine. Now I wanted to get the device into openhab to show some graphs and other things. Unfortunately my openhab cannot read the values of the device. I have no idea what to do. Am hoping somone of you could help me find a solution. Here is my configuration:

Hi,

it is a bit strange that a value is requested for an item that is not configured. Unfortunately the returned error code does not really help, because it simply means “Common Error”. Does the device correctly return values to the CCU?

In order to make sure that the problem has nothing to do with the manual thing and item definition, can you please configure this device and the items you are interested in within Paper UI? If this does not help please activate TRACE log and attach the openhab.log file.

BTW: which openHAB version are you using?

sorry, I am running OH2.5.8.
The values of the device are returned correctly inside the CCU. So i guess not the source of the problem.

I have configured everything manually in the things and item files. I find it more comprehensable so i’d rather not use the paper UI configuration. But I will add the trace log.

It is a bit strange. There is already a problem with “getParamset” which can retrieve the MASTER information but the request for VALUES then fails. It then tries to read the data point values with a getValue request, which also fails. Maybe there is some problem on the CCU side because it is very uncommon that the requests for reading the data point values fail.

I have seen that there have been some problems with this device in older releases but haven’t heard about any problems recently. I have no experience with piVCCU (i am using raspberrymatic) but there should be some log files on the CCU that can help.

What I don’t get is that obviously there are values for POWER and ENERGY_COUNTER. But in the PaperUI it just showas NaN?! Can you explain that?

I see two possible reasons: it may be caused by the failed request to the CCU or it has to do with the item definitions. You have defined them as Number without a unit. Maybe its necessary to add a unit to the Number.

I normally define my items completely in files but in order get the correct definitions for new devices I use Paper UI first to see the derived definitions and then I remove it from Paper UI and use the text file.

Unfortunately that didn’t change anything. Here is what I tried:

OK, maybe this could help, if this does not help you could try to find logs on the CCU (probably in /var/log).

Just to add some more Information on that. I am using homegear latest nightly to connect my homematic devices to openhab. it is connected to the latest OH3 version and this is diaplaying power and energy counter instantly. Low battery is not so often updated, so no value at this moment. The log does not show any strange thing.

Which firmware version do you use?

I have been trying all kinds of things to get my device running. I even did a firmware upgrade but nothing works. After alot of searching I found this in the description of the homematic binding:

-1 Failure

A device may return this failure while fetching the datapoint values. I have tested pretty much but I did not find the reason. The HM-ES-TX-WM device for example always returns this failure, it is impossible with the current CCU2 firmware (2.17.15) to fetch the values. I have implemented two workarounds, if a device returns the failure, workaround one is executed, if the device still returns the failure, workaround two is executed. This always works in my tests, but you may see an OFFLINE, ONLINE cycle for the device. Fetching values is only done at startup or if you trigger a REFRESH. I hope this will be fixed in one of the next CCU firmwares. With Homegear everything works as expected.

It talks about a workaround one and two. But unfortunately there is nothing described how to do that.
Any suggestions?

I’m using openhab 2.5.9 and CCU3 (piVCCU, Firmware 3.51.6).
I updated to 2.5.9 (but error occured on previous version, too), removed thing, restartet CCU, cleaned cache, re-added thing. Still doesn’t work.

Everything was configured by Paper UI.

I only use the channel:

GAS_POWER is not used.

Maybe it is piVCCU problem. I have found this issue in piVCCU repository: https://github.com/alexreinert/piVCCU/issues/217 Maybe it is the same situation with your device.

Hmm… they are describing that the problem starts after rebooting the ccu. For me the problem exists from the moment I have connected my device to the ccu. So I’m not sure if they are talking about the same issue.
Actually I’m pretty frustrated. I can’t really use the device as expected and don’t know where to address this issue what really seems to be a bug.

Which kind of sensor do you use?

For me it’s the LED sensor, that means, GAS_POWER etc. are not relevant for me, and perhaps the endpoints just do not exist in this configuration?
The HM-ES-TX-WM detects the connected sensor and therefore configures its own channels in the CCU.

I would recommend to create an issue in the piVCCU repo. I have the feeling that the problem is caused by piVCCU. If I understand the error messages from the CCU correctly then it seems that piVCCU has a problem to get the values from the device.

Couldn’t it be, that the binding just asks for channels, that do not exist dependent on the sensor which is connected?

This should be the same with the gas meter sensor (which i don’s have).

Unfortunately it is not possible to force the configuration to a gas meter sensor (auto detection). I could imagine that the endpoints GAS_POWER etc. would then exist?

Is there a possibility to remove this channels/definitions from the binding? I tried to remove the definitions in standard-datapoints.properties (and the other *.properties files), but as I am a complete newbie, the HM-ES-TX-WM, just did not work after the change. :wink:

EDIT: I just ordered a gas meter sensor, I will test it with that and report later.

Currently the binding creates the channels based on the data points it retrieves from the CCU. It is not possible to remove channels. It would be possible to add some special handling for this device, but I would like to avoid it or only implement it if it is really a problem of the binding.

We can check what datapoint information is returned from the piVCCU to the binding. To do this please remove the thing from openHAB, enable TRACE log mode for the Homematic binding, then run a new discovery in openHAB and post the content of openhab.log. There will probably quite a lot of information. Maybe piVCCU returns data points that are really available on the device and accessing them leads to a problem.

As far as I understood @Dibbler42 the device is working correctly if used with Homegear. That’s why I am assuming that it has to do with piVCCU.
