How can Groovy be installed manually (not as add-on)?

Hello,

in the Add-On Store the documentation for Groovy Scripting is „provides support for Groovy … and eliminates the need to manually install Groovy.“

The same is stated at openhab-addons/bundles/org.openhab.automation.groovyscripting/README.md at main · openhab/openhab-addons · GitHub .

How can Groovy be installed manually? That is, if this add-on, which eliminates the need to install Groovy manually, did not existed, how can the user install Groovy in OpenHab?

Greetings // Dilyan

In the past the Core would be able to use any javax.script.ScriptEngineavailable on the class path. This is also how the old JavaScript engine (Nashorn) worked. It was part of the JVM so it would always be available. You would then just add the Groovy (or Jython etc.) JARs to the class path. IIRC this stopped working due to a Karaf upgrade (or Bnd migration?) around the time the automation add-ons were introduced.

Is this text now inaccurate?

Yes because it no longer works.
