Installing openhab 3 unstable Release | repository does not have a Release file

hi fellow openhab users,

Error message

E: The repository 'https://openhab.jfrog.io/openhab/openhab-linuxpkg unstable Release' does not have a Release file.

I am trying to install a snapshot version of OH3.
I have a new raspberrie pi 4 with PI OS

I’m not that adept at working with repository

According to this page https://www.openhab.org/docs/installation/linux.html#package-repository-installation

I have to do this:
echo ‘deb https://openhab.jfrog.io/openhab/openhab-linuxpkg unstable main’ | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/openhab2.list

When I do sudo apt-get update I get :

Hit:1 http://archive.raspberrypi.org/debian buster InRelease
Hit:2 http://raspbian.raspberrypi.org/raspbian buster InRelease
Ign:3 https://openhab.jfrog.io/openhab/openhab-linuxpkg unstable InRelease

what is wrong or what am I doing wrong?

Hi @micware, you’re not doing anything wrong. This is a bug with our repository which we are currently waiting on a fix. This issue comes and goes and I haven’t figured out a pattern to when it starts or stops yet.

Did you come from: Guide: Installing and testing OH3 snapshots using APT and YUM ?

If so, there’s a section in that same post for a workaround on the issue you’re experiencing:

wget https://openhab.jfrog.io/openhab/list/openhab-linuxpkg/pool/main/3.0.0~S1926/openhab_3.0.0~S1926-1_all.deb
sudo apt install ./openhab_3.0.0~S1926-1_all.deb

where S1926 should be the latest build inside this folder. (1926 is the latest at the time of writing this post).

Hi Ben,

Thank you for your comment!
Good to know it’s not my fault for once

I did come from: Guide: Installing and testing OH3 snapshots using APT and YUM

i’m going to study the link you provided.

Thank you for this information
and I hope we have a bright future with Openhab 3

gr, Michiel

i have the same error but i am able to install snapshots correctly.
Note that the required repository is unstable main unstable main

echo ‘deb https://openhab.jfrog.io/openhab/openhab-linuxpkg unstable main

The error is for unstable release

`E: The repository 'https://openhab.jfrog.io/openhab/openhab-linuxpkg unstable Release' does not have a Release file.`

browse over to https://openhab.jfrog.io/openhab/webapp/#/artifacts/browse/tree/General/openhab-linuxpkg/dists/unstable/main to see that this has artifacts

This is a separate issue to the one described in this thread. It looks like you’re on a standard Debian buster build right? I can’t replicate your problem on my virtual machine with that OS.

Hoi Thomas,

This is a totally different problem than what I had.

And not to confuse things even further in this post, it seems useful to make a separate post for this problem

and I think more info is needed for someone to help you any further.

if read it correct you are updating from an older version of openhab to a snapshot version (of openhab 3 which is not stable / producite ready at all.)

so version number of OS and current OH 2.x.x can be important to mention.

Perhaps not everything has been programmed yet for your starting situation (it’s not called “not stable” for nothing)

So make a new post in the hope someone can help you further

Since the Guide: Installing and testing OH3 snapshots using APT and YUM topic’s first post is updated with latest information. I’m happy that conversations and bug reports about the packaging happen there too, as I’ll try to fix any issue that arises quickly (and I track that thread already).
