IOS App - missing Back and Edit buttons in Items view, Things page does not load, Images not displayed

Hi all,

I am using latest iOS openHAB 3.1.49 (106) with openHAB 5.2.0.M1 on openhabian. I have experienced same issues with previous openHAB iOS app and openHAB 5.1.x as well, but older versions were running fine. Unfortunately I cannot exactly remember which…

The same happens in WLAN (local) or via myopenhab.org (remote) Please find sample screenshots attached at the bottom of this note.

  1. Settings→Things: page is not displaying things list. The animated background does not stop. However, list of items (1700) is visible after a few seconds
  2. Settings→Items: Items View - top section with Back, Edit buttons, Item name and Icon is not visible
  3. Main page→Locations, Devices, Property badges - Background images are not loaded, but they are perfectly fine on a Web browser (e.g. Safari, Chrome)

Does anyone experience similar issues? Any idea how I could further investigate? I do not have any clue, if it is related to the iOS app version, openHAB version or a combination of both.

Many thanks for your input / thoughts.

Regards,
Michael

@MichaelEi Could you please try whether the issue you are reporting is solved with the TestFlight release? GitHub - openhab/openhab-ios: The repository of the iOS client · GitHub

Hi @timbms , I have tried the TestFlight release with no success. The behavior is exactly the same.

I have then de-installed the app, and after a restart of the iPhone re-installed the TestFlight version. When I tried it first, there was no change. I have now switched local server to https://ip:8443. Thing list is now showing and items seem to have complete details page. But background images are still missing. Some show the “?” image, others not.

I then flipped a few times between http://ip:8080 and https://ip:8443 and then suddenly with http://ip:8080 images are shown and Things / Items working as expected.

But there is no change via remote connection via https://myopenhab.org.

My tests were a bit erratic and certainly not reproduceable. Is there a way to log the app requests and server responses at openHAB side? Maybe I can spot something there which helps to identify the root cause.

Scratching my head…

Regards,
Michael

Can you try in the TestFlight app:

  1. Check whether you can connect to the remote server https://myopenhab.org with your credentials. Press the WiFi - like icon. You should get “Connection successful”
  2. In Settings → Check and Clear Image Cache (Probably you overwrote the cache by switching between 8443 and 8080. I would have to dive into the code to ascertain)
  3. Ideally raise an issue on GitHub and upload your debug log (Settings - Debug - Logs) there if you are still stuck.

Hi Tim, thanks for your suggestions. Meanwhile I have updated openHAB to latest 5.2.0.M2 and tried again.

Connection is working fine. I do see the overview page updating perfectly fine with both local and remote connection. “Connection successful” confirmed for both.

All tried multiple times with no success. Local connection in WLAN is working fine. Images are now displayed again. Things page loading and item view is also working (Edit, Back buttons etc). When I am remotely connected, I do not get any images. Another difference is, that in Settings I do not see the red banner “Health issues” at the bottom. Things, Model, Transformations, Persistence, Schedule, System Settings and Add-on Settings are not coming. Items, Pages, Rules, Scenes, and Scripts are shown. I do not know Schedules as I do not have any defined.

When I turn on WLAN again, all is working again.

I have checked the Debug Log. It is less than 2 pages on my iPhone and there is nothing suspicious. Please advise how to copy / upload the Log? Copy&Paste is not working on that screen.

Michael
