Ipcam binding - Testing Eversecu B2-R Lightbulb Camera that claims to be ONVIF Conformant

OK, so the camera is setup to send http requests on port 80. You need to work out if this port 80 is correct.

ONVIF usually uses a different port so you clearly have that port correct.

Your camera is not sending a response back to the onvif command CreatePullPointSubscription so this means you will not get events that make your motion alarm work. The fact that Onvif device manager gives the same result means this is not a bug on openHABs end.

You should try http://10.0.0.218:80/snaptshot.cgi
That is the URL that ONVIF is telling you should work, if it does not then it is a fault of the ONVIF inside the camera.

Since the event streams are not working, unless the camera is PTZ capable I would totally forget about setting it up as ONVIF. You have already gained all that you can from what the camera is replying.

RTSP
rtsp://10.0.0.218:10554/tcp/av0_0
Snapshots
http://10.0.0.218/onvif/snaptshot.cgi

Currently the merged binding will go offline if it can not make a http connection to the port 80, so my guess is the snapshot does not work and that is why it does not come online. Confirm the snapshot does not work in any browser and then give up and you have 1 last option. I have just changed the binding not merged yet to use the event stream as the online/offline detection but that is no help either

Setup the camera as being rtsp only as a generic camera type.

No problem, just make sure you include a brand and model so if someone searches the forum they can get a hit and read about what happens if they purchase one. If its really cheap and works via rtsp (good chance it will) then it may keep you happy however it will use a LOT more cpu to gain basic features like motion alarms and snapshots from the rtsp stream that you may just find spending more money on a camera with working onvif to be much better value as it just works and saves you time and also CPU load which in turn can give you savings back in your pocket from less power being purchased.

You left your password in the json settings. Please consider what will happen if an AI searches forums and links this password to you. Do you use it for other accounts, can an AI learn a pattern and predict passwords you may choose in future? Make sure you have thought about this before the use of AI for hacking becomes a massive problem if it is not already. If you do find and replace, then please blank it out with ******* so people know its blanked out and then takes time to warn you like this message.

Thanks for the reply. I have xxx’d it out. I don’t use that password anywhere. I did years ago and it was hacked and it is all over the dark web. My ID protection services tell me it is in the hands of every hacker in the world. I suppose I shouldn’t have used it even inside my home network.

The brand and model are in the thread title. Is that enough, or do I need to put it somewhere else?

I haven’t been able to find a bulb camera like this. I would be willing to buy one if I could find one.

There is two things that I would try.

  1. Use the newer jar as it does not check for a snapshot connection anymore like the merged binding, it may just work as it may be failing before the event stream has a chance to start up. Get the link from the reolink thread and follow the steps there to install it.

  2. Try entering ffmpeg into the snapshot url feild. This will force the camera to not use the snapshot and resort to creating snaps from the RTSP.

If we can work out a way to trick the camera into working, then I can look at adding in work arounds so ignore the methods and results, we just need to make some forward progress and work out what is possible so please try the 2 above things.

Yes that is unique. I would take a look at this camera to see if it has the Reolink API in it.

EDIT: Also @BigGeorgeTx you have not stated what the result of trying the port 80 snapshot url is. It is important to answer each question otherwise I then have to make assumptions which could be wrong.

Sorry about that. I am once again traveling and access it remotely. I will be back Tuesday and will be able to test it locally. Connect through Tailscale VPN with the remote local network as the exit node, I get “This site cannot be reached”. I will verify it when I return.

The Reolink camera looks interesting, but I need a bulb camera that screws into a light socket. I don’t have a power outlet on the porch where I want to have a camera.

I’m back on site. I was able to connect to the camera with the ONVIF Device Manager

I looked at the response to the ONVIF GetSnapshotUrl command and although I don’t pretend to understand all of the response, I think it specified a different port than what I had tried earlier.

<s:Body><trt:GetSnapshotUriResponse><trt:MediaUri><tt:Uri>http://10.0.0.218:61682/snapshot.cgi</tt:Uri><tt:InvalidAfterConnect>false</tt:InvalidAfterConnect><tt:InvalidAfterReboot>false</tt:InvalidAfterReboot><tt:Timeout>PT5S</tt:Timeout></trt:MediaUri></trt:GetSnapshotUriResponse></s:Body></s:Envelope>

entering http:10.0.0.218:61682/snapshot.cgi still returns 10.0.0.281 Refuses to connect.
I wonder if I need to somehow provide my username and password.

It seems promising that the ONVIF Device Manager is able to connect. Any suggestion for what I can do to further troubleshoot this?

Also,

The response is: The Site Cannot be Reached
10.0.0.218 took too long to respond.

you will need to tell the binding to use port 61682

Interesting that your earlier log showed this in the TRACE… It is port 34730 here. It is possible your camera opens a random port each time an ONVIF program connects.

This should be considered a bug in the binding. The ONVIF is clearly stating the URL with a port to use and the binding is not doing this, so it is a bug. Thanks for finding this.

You do not need to troubleshoot this further, I can look at fixing this in the next day or two. Hopefully this is the only roadblock then you may have it working. I googled the camera and it appears that the PTZ does work via onvif so that is promising.

My last message had 2 possible work around listed that you can try until I take care of this bug. That is worth doing because you may find another issue that I can look at and get it merged faster.

When I dropped the .jar file in the addons folder, this is what I got at first:

When I put the text in the item attached to the Image URL channel and the MJPEG URL channel into the ClickableCameraImage widget, the snapshot is there and if I click on it, it goes to the live stream.

In the json settings you posted above in this thread you have the port set to 80 (onvif port is different to port which is what will be used for the snapshot) you need to make this match the port for the snapshot. If it is static and not changing then that should work for now till I fix the bug.

You can ignore some log errors if they only occur when your ripping out and replacing a binding when it is still running.

The communication error is correct, you need to check the port setting is correct and if it is on 80 and the camera needs another number, you need to change this. The bug when fixed should allow it to pick up the snapshot is on a different port.

EDIT: I checked and if you supply the snapshotUri in the things settings you should be able to work around this and not use ffmpeg and have working snapshots. A manually supplied url seems to be handled correctly with no bugs from a quick glance.

Great that is a work around and will use more CPU, but will get you working and hopefully you can use PTZ and have working onvif motion alarms and the like.

Cool it is working from the sounds of it, just need to see if you can move the camera using the other widget here

It is very common for cameras to not support all the methods to move a camera, so please take the time to test them out in the onvif device manager program. ABSOLUTE/RELATIVE/PRESET etc…

@BigGeorgeTx

Have made a change that hopefully fixes it for you.

  1. You get a warn in the logs now if the snapshot url does not match what you have given the binding as the port.
  2. The snapshot will honor what ONVIF is saying even if the port does not match as it could very well be a valid reason why a camera may use a random port for security.
  3. It now logs any http requests before they are made and includes the port being used. Before it would fail to log it if the http connection could not be made. fault finding should be easier from now on because of this change.
  4. The camera will not stay online if the event stream does not work with your camera, so fingers crossed this works, otherwise we will need some more changes. Due to point 3 it was stopping before it tried to use the events so I can not predict this from logs already given.

http://pcmus.com/openhab/IpCameraBinding/

I had changed the HTTP port to 61682 from 80.

Here is the TRACE log for the camera after I removed the Jan 9 version and installed the Jan 26 version:
The camera will not stay online if the event stream does not work with your camera
Unfortunately, it does not stay online:

It seems like it isn’t happy with the camera’s ONVIF response to the GetStreamUrl command, as it repeats it (or maybe it is repeating it to make sure nothing has changed this has nothing to do with the camera going offline).

I tried the new widget before changing to the .jar file. With the earlier binding, I had a small image and if I clicked it, it opened a bigger stream. None of the PTZ controls worked. After I changed to the new binding (and after some testing put ffmpeg in the snapshot url), I no longer get any images with the new widget, thought they are there with the old widget.
thanks for all of your help.

It does not look like your using the new jar as the logs are meant to give more and better details.

1.uninstall the merged binding
2. Unzip the jar file and put it in the addons folder.
3.if it complains about netty. Missing install the merged binding called telstick and that will fix that.

If your saying things repeat please show it for a few times in the post here. If your editing the logs and removing entire lines that makes fault finding harder as I use them to know where to look for bugs or how to put a work around in place.

Whoops:

openhab> bundle:list | grep -i cam
278 │ Active  │  80 │ 4.1.1                  │ openHAB Add-ons :: Bundles :: IpCamera Binding
320 │ Waiting │  80 │ 4.2.0.202401261129     │ openHAB Add-ons :: Bundles :: IpCamera Binding
openhab>

I guess I didn’t delete the original in the UI. I removed it in the UI. The new one still showed as Waiting in the karaf console. I stopped it and then started it and then it was Active.

Here is the log, starting when I enabled the Thing:

The camera is using a new HTTP port, 48110. I confirmed in ONVIF Device Manager under Network Settings, that this is the port it is using as well.

I updated it in the UI, but I believe you said that wouldn’t matter because the binding will use the HTTP port ONVIF tells it to. It didn’t make any difference in that the Thing quickly went Offline without ever having been online.

Your camera is saying it does not support the onvif events so you will not get motion alarms out of it, but it does appear the ptz replies are promising. I will have to change one more thing to allow it to go online with no events. So long as the snapshot url works it should be fine after that change. If you do want motion alarms the binding does offer ffmpeg to create this for you but you will take a cpu hit that could be automated to only be on when your not at home.

I just thought of a different way to get the camera online in your situation. Go into the things advanced options and set gif preroll to a number this will make the binding poll the snapshot each second and should allow the camera to come online with less load then doing the ffmpeg trick.you can also make it poll less often, it’s in the docs.

It is looking like this camera has limited ONVIF support. I have never been able to get a snapshot image. One doesn’t show up in the ONVIF Device Manager. And the URL provided by ONVIF does not work in the browser or in the binding.

I reached out to their customer support and asked if the camera had a URL for a snapshot image. Their response was that it has an RSTP stream (which we already knew). They didn’t directly answer the question about a snapshot, but since I don’t seem to be able to access it in any way, I beginning to think there isn’t one. And if that is the case, I suppose setting the snapshot URL to ffmjpeg is the best I’m going to be able to do with this camera.

I agree with you. You’re going to loose some cpu from your server that you would not loose with a better supported camera, but it costs nothing to try it out and see how it goes now that you own it. You are using the binding in ways that I do not test very often, so I am keen to hear your feedback on how well it works, like does it keep running for weeks on end, or does it need a daily reconnect. It would be a different story ifnthe camera had a functioning snapshot which is a requirement before your allowed to advertise onvif support.

It seems to run continuously, but I will let you know of any issues.

I pointed out to the customer support agent that the ONVIF Media Spec 5.16 says that the snapshot uri should be supported. We’ll see what they have to say.

Do you know how big of a deal it is for them to make a firmware update to support this?

The patent expired in dec 2007 for jpg compression so it should just be the time to get a programmer to implement it, I have no idea how easy that is for any company and do not wish to speculate or comment on these types of issues. I am not tech support and wish to spend time doing open source development or spending time with family.
