Is there some documentation that describes how zones work in Zwave?

I have a few switches(Zone Controllers) that I use to trigger rules to turn things on and off. This mostly works, but sometimes there is a long delay for the action to trigger. So I’m wondering if there is somewhere how zones work is described because while I have them doing what I want, it seems like I’m doing something wrong.

I don’t know anything about Zwave but I have some devices on zigbee, and there’s one where I see something similar to what you describe.
Found out that zigbee2mqtt what a nifty network map to see the devices and immediately noticed the link quality of the connection to the router.
The device with the lowest lqi was indeed the that sometimes took longer to work.
Maybe you have some gaps in your Zwave coverage??
