Google is going to be adding the ability to control devices from within the network and not have to go through the cloud. This should hopefully speed up controlling devices with Google Home or Google Assistant. It will be available in developer preview soon. Maybe you create a GitHub feature request?
That is super cool. I wish Amazon would do the same (beyond the local hue control) .
