Sadly the forum seems to be mostly dead with the last post over two years old.
I think anyone looking to do this today would do well to start on an ESP over an Arduino so you don’t need the RPi to transmit the sesnor readings. Most of the wiring information should be about the same though.
I will say the SlashGear article was rather underwhelming with almost no actual content. It’s nice they mentioned openHAB but having read the article I’m not sure I would even know what they meant.
