I’ve been using OpenHab for many years and relied on Frontail to keep an eye on my logs. A few weeks ago Frontail finally gave up the ghost — and instead of patching it yet again, I decided to build my own viewer.
With a bit of help from AI and a lot of curiosity, OpenHabLogViewer was born.

I’m definitely not against third party tools like this, particularly if they add something. But I don’t see what it does that the log viewer built into MainUI doesn’t already do. Is there some feature that is missing there that should be added?
There are definitely features, such as hiding the source, choosing whether the latest messages appear at the top or bottom, or simple filtering by log level—things I don’t have in the built-in log viewer.
But that alone isn’t the reason; personally, I just don’t like the built-in log viewer.
There’s no one-size-fits-all solution; people should definitely have the choice of which tool to use, even if several tools do the same thing. Many people use—or continue to use—Frontail for their logs, even though the built-in view has been available for quite some time.

Which is why I asked. Again, I’m not against a third party tool like this. But if everyone just goes off and codes their own thing, OH never gets better.
