Issue of the topic: I just upgraded from 3.4.2 > 5.2.0 (and it was VERY easy).
Now that I have additional integration ability, I have added the Alexa Voice add on. And… configured with my UUID and Secret. Alexa has the OpenHab skill and is connected to the same cloud instance.
OpenHab Cloud shows my OpenHAB local as online
I added (exposed) a wifi switch thing: sw_PowerOutlet02, Item: PlantStand (sw_PowerOutlet02_PlantStand)
If I go to Alexa and discover devices (switch) it says no devices found.
I’m guessing I have some minor something wrong, but don’t know what more info to give without some prompting.
I can supply any logs, screenshots, etc that someone needs.
All IOS, Windows, OpenHAB, Alexa skills are current versions.
IIRC this integration was broken several months ago due to a change in Amazon API. As a result Alexa can no longer discover new devices.
You can still send commends to devices that were previously discovered, but Alexa no longer sees status.
I think Matter is the preferred way to integrate now, but the list of supported devices is limited.
Well, that certainly explains why everything looks right, but nothing is happening!
What could also work is direct OH voice instead of going through alexa. The plus side of alexa is the house is “covered” in listening devices already.
Amazon has (intentionally) “broken” several API’s in the last year or so. They don’t mind “apps”. They are not fans of integrations (such as this) where they are not 100% in control. Supposedly for security reasons. My take based on WHICH apps are targeted, they are the apps that do a better, more reliable job of doing something than Amazon. So, they want you to use THEIR ($$) apps.
But, in the end, if I can still tell SOMEONE (hey Billy Bob, turn off all lights) to do something I am happy.
If it makes a difference on the direction I go… I have:
Several Sonoff S31 wifi switched outlets.
4 Sonoff SNZB-04PR2 door open sensors.
Several Sonoff SNZB-02P temp/humidity sensors.
All (controlled) lights are EcoSmart 60-Watt Equivalent Smart A19 E26 Base Color Changing CEC LED Light Bulbs (WiFi)
Honeywell (Residio) RTH9585WF1006/W smart wifi color thermostat
Using Alexa as voice control for 2 S32 switches (others are on OH), door open sensors, temp/humidity sensors, all lights, and the Residio thermostat. All connected via the Echo hub.
5 S32 switched outlets are scheduled via OH.
What started all this was that I used to use my zigbee sonoff stuff via OH. Reasonably reliable. (Sonoff -E zigbee dongle). Since the echo hub does zigbee directly, I decided that would be less hassle. Echo is HORRIBLE about keeping track of zigbee stuff. Constant “not responding”. Have to reboot the Echo once daily - assuming either clearing cache, or forcing a “Ping” through the system and everything wakes up. For a while.
The tl;dr is you just install the binding, tag the Items, and enable bridging in the binding settings. To add OH as a matter bridge to Alexa/Google Home/What ever you scan the QR code in the Matter binding settings.
I expose all the Items I want to control from Google Home this way and it works great! It doesn’t work the other way though. Devices that are integrated directly with Google Home are not made available to openHAB.
And I think that’s the part that is broken with Alexa right now too. My thermosat went offline which was only shared through Alexa and I never could get it to come back. I don’t control anything from Alexa so I can’t speak for whether that’s generally broken or not.
