Without a solution for this issue, the whole application of openHAB doesn’t make any further sense.
I wouldn’t go so far as to say that the whole application no longer makes sense, but the marketplace is effectively completely broken, that’s true ![]()
It would be desirable if this problem were given high priority!
I know that the work is still done voluntarily in people’s spare time, but this way openHAB will only lose users again…
Why am I writing this? Because I am a committed openHAB user and only see advantages over HA, and I also have the following thread in mind: https://community.openhab.org/t/openhab-marketing-is-lacking
If anyone needs a moderator action ping me and I’ll do what I can. At least for the marketplace I think it’s reasonable to regenerate screenshots of images even if you are not the author to be used until this problem gets resolved. I will gladly put user provided screenshots into the marketplace postings on behalf of the authors.
Does anybody know that caused them to get lost in the first place? Maybe it’s just the references which are broken and the actual image files still exists on the server
No images here in community or when browsing widgets in the web UI marketplace. Been slightly annoying while I rebuilt my OH setup on new hardware. Trying to get a temperature/humidity sensor setup and having to install the options, and test it out just to see what it looks like. Still just annoying but still annoying.
It appears the images aren’t lost.
In this post: Marketplace versioning with embedded resource - #7 by Nadahar
You have addresses of images on S3 for example https://community-openhab-org.s3.dualstack.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/original/3X/3/b/3bcdc6663c231a91b969c9eb89a208feccc74dc8.png and they still work, they just aren’t translated properly to these from the upload:// URI at the moment.
Maybe something like this: Missing images in discourse website. while they exist in upload folder - #5 by hosna - Support - Discourse Meta will help.
The command rake posts:recover_uploads_from_index does sound promising, but it should probably be tested before being applied to the “live forum”. I don’t know if that’s doable/realistic.
According to the linked topic, it didn’t work properly for the poster. But, if the exact problem is pinpointed, maybe it’s possible to modify such a script to apply exactly the operation needed to fix the issue that exists here.
Only those with access to the forum at this level can attempt such an operation, so the rest of us are a bit helpless in that regard.
I volunteer any of my posts for testing. I don’t mind if they get mangled if something goes wrong. I can go and fix them. It’s probably best to use my marketplace widgets as I’ve added some pictured back in other places and I don’t remember which ones.
Bump!
I’m not sure if those in charge realize how important this issue is.
In its current form, large parts of the forum are practically unusable.
If we don’t get the images back, just tell us the truth … ![]()
Hello, I am a beginner and I am really struggling to make progress because some posts are incomprehensible without the images😭. Is there a solution in sight or is this situation permanent?
I’m currently looking at this now and might have a solution (i was able to fix an old post with a missing image as a test). Unfortunately this process is sloooooow and may take several days to fix assuming i don’t have to start over, in which case it will take several more.
Is it impossible to do in batches? That would at least reduce the risk of having to start from scratch over and over again.
not with the built in tools, and i am no ruby/discourse/rails expert so sticking with whats safe and not trying to hack my own thing, but i did run a bunch of tests on the current running process and i am fairly confident its doing what it needs to be doing …![]()
So i think i have repaired most, if not all of the missing images. The built in repair tools only got us half way there, i did end up having to write a custom ruby script (with a LOT of help from Claude Opus) to actually repair the posts to use the updated links. I have spot checked a few i knew were missing and those now have images, but if others could check as well that would be great, thanks.
I can confirm that all the old posts I have checked have their images back.
Bravo!
Just browsing here reveals that a lot of the marketplace images are back: ![]()
You’re a real wizard, @digitaldan! Thank you so much for your help on this!!!
Thanks a bunch!
I cant tell how much this fix helps as a non developer having the ability to look at pictures and screenshots again. Thanks you so much for making this happen/fixing it again.
Now I can search for problems and their solutions properly without having to open a new post. Openhab rocks ![]()
