@Benny_Dormaels just to double check what I read. Did you manage to use option 53 succesfully? i.e. no issues with the backups (and no need to change stuff on the SD card?)
I have been doing manual images of the card every week or so but would rather change to an automatic method

it is not consistent, sometimes it works, sometimes I need to manually modify the sd card to make it bootable.
At a certain time I gave up because it is not reliable.
I take a manual backup now once in a while (put the sd card in my pc and backup)

It’s known to work in quite a while (there have been changes in those past 8 months)
So you should update openHABian and try again.
If it does not please help with identifying why it does not (open a Github issue and provide a log with debugmode=maximum).
