It took a while, but we have finally a first milestone build for the upcoming openHAB 5.0! Check out the release notes at
When trying out our milestones, please note that openHAB 5 requires Java 21 and a 64-bit OS!

Almost two months have passed since our first milestone and we are very happy to have shipped another stable milestone with many improvements - please check out the release notes here:

It is my pleasure to announce that we have just published another milestone on our way to openHAB 5!
This milestone was highly anticipated because it brings Matter support to openHAB - both as a client and a bridge. For everyone with Matter devices out there, we would love you to test it out and provide feedback and bug reports for it, so that we can make sure to have a stable Matter support in the final 5.0 release.
But besides Matter support, there have been many other great enhancements in the past weeks - check out the full list in the release notes:
Talking about the final 5.0 release, many of you are likely wondering when this will happen - so let me share our release schedule for it:
July 13 : 5.0.0 Milestone 4 - Feature freeze
July 18 : 5.0.0 RC1 - Code freeze
July 20 : openHAB 5.0.0 GA
Letās make it a great release again. Please use this topic for any discussions around our 5.0 milestones.
The next (and final) milestone has been built - check out the release notes of openHAB 5.0 Milestone 4 here:
With this milestone we have reached the feature freeze - from here on, we plan to only merge bug fixes (unless there are strong reason for anything else). Please help us to identify any bigger issues that might still exist in the code base to make sure that the final release is as stable as possible.
Talking about the GA release, there is a slight adaption to the earlier announced schedule for personal timing reasons: While the RC1 is still planned for July 18, the GA release will be postponed by one day to July 21 - I hope you are ok to wait one day more for it.
As usual, please use this topic for any discussions around our 5.0 milestones.
We are only 3 days away from our openHAB 5.0 release!
Thank you all for the extensive testing - we feel that the build is pretty stable and we believe that it should be a fairly smooth upgrade for everyone.
As a last build before the release on Monday, we have just published a Release Candidate, which has some last minute fixes, see
Please use this topic also for any discussions around this release candidate - thanks!
