Openhab crash after updated to 2.4

I´m not quite sure what has gone wrong. But since I updated opanhab from a rock stable 2.3 to 2.4 stable, it has been a nightmare… And things just seem to get worse each time I restart (reboot).

I´m running with an Rpi 3B, openhabian (hasslefree) setup. Started from version 2.2, then 2.3 and now 2.4
I used an SSD from which I boot from. No SD card.

Just did a reboot again, and before openhab finished starting it crashed and restarted again. This is the only major error I see in the log:

2018-12-31 00:59:16.709 [INFO ] [.internal.GenericScriptEngineFactory] - Activated scripting support for ECMAScript

Since I updated to 2.4 the only changes I have done was to go from modbus1 til modbus2 binding. And because Grafana acting strange as well, I updated to latest version.

While wiriting this, openhab crashed again. This time the Rpi lock, so I cant reconnect to ssh. Got to plug the plug I guess…

Anyway… All suggestions are welcome how to handle this problem, since its rather unsuable right now.

Did you try clearing the cache?

Several times. And it seems like I end up with even more errors after doing each clearing.

This is the logfile from this night showing most of the problems… Warning, it´s HUGE!.

I did the reboot at 00:56:30. During this startup, openhab crashed, and restartet itself at 00:58:33
At 01:02:37 the whole system crashed when I made an Zigbee discovery, and I had to pull the plug.
At 01:12:37 the system start up again, but agian opehab crash and restart itself at 01:17:44.

After that, I went to bed. System still running now, but I guess it´s just a question of doing the “right” thing, then it will crash… I can force it to crash, if i enter at sitemap having more than one Grafana chart.
But I no longer suspect Grafana beeing the issue here. It has to be something more fatal.

openhab.log.rar.txt (123.9 KB)

Pulling the plug can be fatal on linux systems. If the OS was writing on system files at this time you can brick your machine.
I suspect this is the case and you have corrupted OH and/or system files.
Do you have a recent back-up? Or start from scratch?

Had to pull the plug cause system froze. I let it run for quite some minutes to make sure no writing was going on… Thats why it took aprox 10 minutes before I restartet the system again.

I have a backup from openhab 2.3 system. Didnt make any sense doing backup from 2.4 since it had problems from start.
But I would rather try find the cause for these fatal problems… If I cant, I guess I might as well start from scratch with a fresh 2.4. It´s just pretty annoying this has happened.

I did look into your log file. Let’s start with the first thing I see:

  • It warns about the velux binding. Did you have a velux binding in your addons folder? The binding is now part of the official release. Did you have it in your addons.cfg So I think this might conflict.
  • I also see errors related to org.openhab.binding.zigbee.telegesis-2.5.0-SNAPSHOT.jar, did you also put a snapshot version of zigbee in your addons map?

Velux binding is not part of the official release. At least not in my 2.4 stable release. @gs4711 may have a comment on this. So it´s in the addons folder.
I have seen the error allright. I just assumed this is one of the acting up from 2.4.

This binding is copied to the addons folder when using @5iver script to manually update the zigbee binding. It shouldn´t matter if it´s installed or not, as far as I know. @chris may have an opinion about this. I only use the Ember. So I can remove the others if needed.

About this velux binding… This is the output from bundles installed:

openhab> bundle:list -s |grep -i velux
259 x Active x 80 x 2.3.0.201802142040 x org.openhab.binding.velux
openhab>

Only one velux bundle…

When I remove it from addons, this is what happens (thats not an error).

So openhabs respond with the bundle allready installed. But it´s not, (wasn´t).

The Telegesis error doesn’t really matter, but the underlying issue does matter. It states that the gnu.io dependency is missing (ie the serial driver) so you can’t start ANY zigbee bundles. Since you don’t have a Telegesis dongle, this doesn’t matter, but it also isn’t starting Ember - since you have an Ember dongle, this does matter.

You need to include the serial dependency somehow… Either install it manually, or install something like the serial binding which should also resolve this.

But my zigbee devices works, as well as the Ember dongle

The Ember dongle works. The serial transport is installed from the z-wave binding (or the previous zigbee binding)…

As I said - This system is acting very strange…

Apologies - I’m only going on the entries in the log and something isn’t right is it?

org.osgi.framework.BundleException: Could not resolve module: org.openhab.binding.zigbee.ember [196]

You have two copied of the serial driver installed - this might be screwing things up.

Hello,
the org.openhab.binding.velux with id 2.3.0.201802142040 is definitely not part of any distribution. Please take a look into the addon directory whether there exists an equivalent .jar file and remove it manually.
There is, of course up to the finalization of the OH2 binding signoff, an official velux binding for OH1 but not with your mentioned id.

Regards, Guenther

Agree… Something is terrible wrong…

These two?:

openhab> bundle:list -s |grep -i ser

208 x Active x 80 x 3.15.0.OH2 x com.neuronrobotics.nrjavaserial

Yes.

Which one should I remove?? I cant really figure the versions.

Thanks Guenther.
I only got one jar and thats the one from the bundle list output…
Why Openhab is acting up when starting the bundle, I have no idea.

While the velux binding is part of the source, I don’t see any reference to it in any feature.xml files. I also don’t see it in my PaperUI. This might explain why it’s not possible to install the one part of the distribution.

@Kim_Andersen Did you specify the velux binding in your addons.cfg? Or only put the jar in the addons folder?

My addons.cfg is default. No bundles has been specified in there.

I’m not sure what the two versions are or where they are used. In general, I would have suggested to keep the most recent - it’s possible both may be required if there are specific dependency requirements in some bindings, but I think that’s unlikely, but…

I’m not familiar enough with how this works these days as there are now so many bundles included as ESH has its own serial layer as well…

I have no idea either… I have stopped the oldest now… Logfile didnt show any problems…I guess I´ll have to uninstall it insted, and then restart again… And then see what happens.
