Openhabian does not work anymore and can not get it to work anymore

I can not play with that anymore. I just need some switches to work 99,99% of the time.

After update stopped to work.
mqtt.fx did still connect to pi.
after my superior intervention does not anymore. I tryed to reformat sdcard all from scratch. but does not work

Do you have any configuration backups or have you cloned your SD card with entire content ? If you use SD cards it’s always good practice to have second card ready with the same system on it.

No.
I will go once again from scratch and if then does not work…

i’ll try again :frowning:

Still you seem to be able to connect to your system. Is there any hints in the openhab.log or system logs?
I mean, even if you are setting up the system from scratch, you should now what happened either to avoid it in the future or to find a quick way of getting the system up and running again.

mqtt.fx does not connect to pi

Is your problem that only MQTT isn’t working anymore or OpenHab in general?

which broker are you using? which port?
is the broker running (use ps -A on the shell to check if it is)?
Do you get an error when starting the broker from the shell?
Did IP adress change on the PI?
Have you tried connecting to the broker by its IP adress?
Edit:
To which OpenHab version did you update your system?

can you just connect to my pc and see? there are to many questions and i do not know where to look

No we’ll NOT connect to you PC. This is NOT a helpdesk.
You have to get the basic parts right yourself. Gazillions of ressources on the Internet.

Come on…!!

No, we´re not a helpdesk - But we´re NOT stupid either…

This guy needs help as to where to look to provide the informations which are required. And he probably need help to explain himself.

He actually did give some information which could be usefull (perhaps)…

  1. Update - (assume its openhab and probably to the latest 2.4)
    and
  2. mqtt…

Maybe this could help him:

Another possible help. Direct him to the log files, so we´re able to see whats going on.
Answer could be:
http://IP_OF_HIS_RPI:9001 is he´s running the tail log.
Or
/var/log/openhab2/ to look at the logfiles.

Took me just a few seconds. Hopefully, based on his very limited informations, (but obvious major frustrations), this can get him a bit futher… If not, then we´ll take it from there.
I know you think he should have search for this himself first. But if he doesn´t know how to, or even whats wrong, how the hell can a search be usefull in anyway

As said - We´re not stupid either!

If you were using the mqtt 1.x binding then did the upgrade from 2.3 to 2.4 then you need to turn on legacy binding via paperUI and install the 1.x mqtt binding again.

After that I would clean the cache and reboot with these commands.

sudo systemctl stop openhab

sudo openhab-cli clean-cache

sudo reboot

I just found one original sonoff in my box. I think, i will disconnect my not working pi with openhabian.
I do not like idea of not having home automation server at home, but i can not spend days of trying for nothing.

Wish you all HAPPY 2019. ROBERT

@RobertHx please see my post above about turning on the legacy bindings and installing the 1.x matt binding as this is not on by default when upgrading to 2.4.

I have been trying for the last 6 hours to get OH to work. I finally plugged into the HDMI port on the TV and watched OH load. When it got to the line

Updating the Repositories and upgrading installed packages

I got the error message

[ TIME ] Timed out waiting for the device dev-serial1.device

It then errors out at the command prompt waiting for you to log in. If you log in with a USB keyboard plugged into the RPi with openhabian/openhabian (name /password), it looks like it is continuing on but just errors out again at the above error message and stops at the command prompt. I formatted the sd card and tried a second time with the same results!! If you log in with putty on a pc, the screen just looks like it is froze and you can’t do anything.

I know nothing about the code but whatever TIME is, it looks like device dev-serial1.device not starting or connecting.

Further looking at the first-boot.sh file here is the code where the errors out

echo -n "$(timestamp) [openHABian] Updating repositories and upgrading installed packages... "
apt update &>/dev/null
apt --yes upgrade &>/dev/null
if [ $? -eq 0 ]; then echo "OK"; else echo "FAILED"; fail_inprogress; fi

Hope this helps.

John

I give up on this program!! Last night I reloaded openHAB one last time on the sd card. The program seemed to get past the above error as I was watching it load via my TV. Then the screen went blank but there was still no activity as the green light on the Pi continued to blink like it was loading or something. I let it run through the night hoping it would be ready in the morning. The TV screen was still blank and then I went to try to log on to http://openhabianpi:8080/ with the message This site can’t be reached. So I ssh’ed in and went through the config settings, even to the point where I manually installed all the program. I did finally get the LOG file to work. Here is what I found in it.

Maybe this will help solve this mystery.

John

Use sudo openhabian-config and go thru the update and upgrade steps and see if that helps.

Also select Apply Improvements > Packages

SORRY but I have done that already several times and it did not help. I have wiped the sd card with a full format and reloaded OH several times . Still OH will not run to where I can get to even the Paper screen. I wish there was a way to go back to what I had working before.

Did you try accessing the interface using the IP address e.g 10.0.1.2:8080 instead of http://openhabianpi:8080?

Also what the output of sudo systemctl status openhab2

I tried one last time today … and OH is finally loaded and loading the DEMO files. Now maybe I can get back to figuring out how to get OH and Tasmota to talk together!!
