Openweathermap forecast accuracy

Are the forecasts you get from OpenWeatherMap accurate? After getting the widget up and running which looks good, I’ve noticed that the OWM is not close to what I get from the national weather service, and often seems to run too hot. You can see that OWM thinks the temperature will be 94 on Saturday, but the NWS says 83. My experience is that the NWS is correct, and OWM is much too warm. I’ve double checked the location used by OWM and it looks correct.

I like the weather widget, but the data needs to be at least somewhat close to be useful.

OWM:

NWS:

I find OWM to be about as accurate as all the other services. None of them are particularly accurate, including NWS. Consequently, I don’t use forecasts at all. I only use the current measurements. Forecasts are too inaccurate to rely on, particularly for precipitation.

DarkSky used to be the best before Apple bought them and cut everyone off, giving everyone the middle finger in the process. I would have paid for that service, but Apple wanted my to “upgrade” my phone to an iPhone instead.

Ain’t this the truth… I killed all of my weather rules because they became wildly unpredictable :frowning: I use open weather map but no more forecasts either. Swear to god I will have to lose my fear of heights and setup my bressner weather station and start using that data instead…
