Redwoods Mobile App (Exterior lighting) control via Alexa Tuya Smart Skill

I wanted to share my experience controlling our exterior lighting. Our contractor used lights and a zigbee controller provided by Redwoods https://www.redwoodslighting.com/. It was not advertised as being compatible with any home automation systems, but I observed that the original Redwoods iOS app had their wrapper on a Tuya base, and that by linking the Tuya Smart app Alexa skill (not the SmartHome app that Tuya generally recommends), I could then control the lights in Alexa, and through the OH amazonalexacontrol add-on, I could control them in OH.

I have experienced a degradation in the experience as I have had lights replaced with newer Bonzai versions. The original Redwoods lights still work as described above, but the newer once do not, at least directly. Fortunately the group commands (which don’t update when changes are made to their members but do pass through commands) work with the new lights.

The zigbee hub they installed is a Tuya device, but because it is not part of my Tuya account, I can’t use the Tuya binding to control it. I tired to add the Redwoods account to the Tuya cloud set up, but when I scan the QR code in Tuya cloud with the app, I get an error message, so I guess Redwoods didn’t sign up for that option with Tuya.

My dealer doesn’t seem to have any interest in addressing the problem with the new devices. Redwoods says to contact my dealer and the dealer says to contact Redwoods.
I have 3 groups: all, even and odd. I can change the members of the groups. I have 3 of the new lights that don’t show up in Alexa and 11 of the old ones. So far, through strategic use of the groups I can support both my dual colored schemes (e.g. green and red for Christmas) and tri color (red, white and blue for patriotic holidays). That will get harder as the number of new lights increases. The single colors work fine with the All group.
