Runtime 1.7.1 X10 Binding

I am trying to get the org.openhab.binding.cm11a-1.5.0-SNAPSHOT.jar binding to work with my CM11A device and runtime 1.7.1. Every time I issue a command to my lamp module, I get the following error in the log file:
[.b.cm11a.internal.X10Interface] - IO Exception when updating module hardware. Will retry shortly

This is running on Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS 64 Bit

Can anyone tell me how to begin trouble shooting this?
