The “Select” Button in the top right corner of the MainUI does not work anymore for some categories:

I’m back on #4801 and the button works for me on all pages, so that at least puts a lower bound on the issue.
Can you still activate the selection mode if you ctrl + click on one of the list items? That might help narrow down the source of the problem.

Things → no
BTW, I tried 3 different browsers, so it seems not to be a browser issue.

Strange. I don’t see any changes between your version and mine that would obviously explain this. But, because the item list page is constructed slightly different from the things, pages, and rules list pages, the pattern you are seeing is at least reasonable.
Probably best to file an issue.

Same issue happens when using CTRL-Click on list items for those categories.
