Z-Wave-Network: What happens when node numbers increase > 232/255?

I believe that when the stick reaches the limit (232, not 255) it will start using unused node numbers starting at 1.

And should I bother working out how to set these node numbers so that all my Z-Wave things are sequential?

No, you can’t. (Or you have to hard reset the stick and reinclude all your devices every time a node number is not in sequence )
