As a suggestion it’d be great if the squeezebox player would fade the currently playing track to half it’s current volume, play the notification and then start the music again fading back up to the previous volume. Even if it’s for just half a second before and after the notification.
I just think this would make it feel less jarring when a notification interrupts the music.

That can be done in a rule
Looking at the CLI docs, playlist index has a parameter to allow fade in, but I’m not sure if it also will fade out the currently playing track. I’ll add this to my list of things to try out. If it works, I could add a config parameter on the player thing that allows you to specify the number of fade in seconds for notifications.
