What is the best way to start with openHAB?

In my opinion buy one or two simple devices a light, wall switch or switchable outlet.

Start to set it up.

I had a Raspberry Pi 0 W lying around and used it for my first tests. At first I downloaded the openHABian image and used the “Raspberry Pi Imager” to write the Image to a blank SD card. After the first setup I did not include any external items at first. I started with OpenWeatherMap and TankerKönig which are both web services that you can use to play around with the UI and how to create pages. Only after I gained some basic knowledge I explored what else I could use it for.
