I think it’s only reading the data, however, not sure if there’s any writing capabilities, so you might not be able to tell the curtains to open or close, for instance, which is what I was hoping for

Correct, currently Theengs Gateway does not have READ/WRITE capabilities, but as I commented on GitHub, OpenMQTTGateway on an ESP32, which uses the same Theengs Decoder library for decoding can issue READ/WRITE commands to Bluetooth devices, making it possible to also control your curtains.
