TP-Link HS103 (COMMUNICATION_ERROR)

After almost a year of use one of my TP-LINK HS103 is experiencing a COMMUNICATION ERROR. My other HS103 continue to function correctly.

I am able to control it with the Kasa iOS app (LOCAL ONLY) but openHAB is no longer able to control it.

I deleted it from openHAB after a lengthy delay openHAB rediscovered it but after it was added back into openHAB it went offline again.

I have it blocked from the internet so no firmware updates should have taken place.

Using TP-LINK Smarthome Binding 3.0.2

I have not made any changes to my openHAB setup and have not altered my wifi router.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Did the “bad” unit get a new IP address from the DHCP server by chance?

Nope. I have assigned static IP address for my smart home devices.

Try placing the device physical closer to your wifi acces point and see if that makes a difference.If that fixes it, it could mean something is interfering with your hs103.

I moved the HS103.

openHAB once again found it.

I added the HS103 to openHAB

Once added the following was displayed within openHAB.

Status: UNKNOWN

And then it changes to the following.

Status: OFFLINE
**COMMUNICATION_ERROR**
No route to host (Host unreachable)

Please note that the Kasa iOS app can control the HS103 (LOCAL ONLY)

I then changed the power strip it was plugged into and it “SEEMED” to start working again BUT each time I turned on or off the HS103 I would cause a COMMUNICATION_ERROR which lasted for a few seconds.
