can I update from Version 2.5.3 directly to Version 2.5.6 or must I install all versions (2.5.4, 2.5.5 and so on…)?

No, just go to the latest
Be sure to read the release notes so you don’t get any surprises

And make a backup of your working installation so that you can roll back easily if something goes wrong.
You likely plan to do this already, but I think it’s always worth stating since some people don’t think to do it.
