Upgrade/update from 4.1.2 to 4.2.x problem

Trying to update and upgrade the system from 4.1.2 to latest stable causes problems. The log file tells about problems with reading from server.

How to resolve it?

It is not unusual for the package servers to be down temporarily for maintainenece. The error says it’s the remote server that is closing the connection so it is likely in some error or maintainenece mode. The error should only persist for a short time.

Thank you. Let me try in couple of days

I made 1 try every day and have the same problem. It stops downloading at the same package
:frowning: any suggestion?

It is the addons file causing problems
Quick fix: remove addons from your device

what does it exactly mean? What will be the impact and how to do this?
I am afraid this is not the only one package.

ok. Then this download error does not only relate to a single file but in general to communication to the server. In this case my workaround will not help.

Even simple update does not work.
Picking up the openhab update i see the following:

[sudo] password for openhabian:
2024-08-19_20:14:39_CEST [openHABian] Checking for root privileges... OK

and the installation hangs. Anyone had the same problem?

You’ve got some sort of DNS problem on your network or on that machine. The error is pretty clear:

unable to access 'https://github.com/openhab/openhabian/': Could not resolve host: github.com

What ever is supplying DNS to this machine cannot resolve github.com to an IP address.

strange because the ping works:

openhabian@openhabian:~ $ ping github.com
PING github.com (140.82.121.4) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from lb-140-82-121-4-fra.github.com (140.82.121.4): icmp_seq=1 ttl=42 time=185 ms
64 bytes from lb-140-82-121-4-fra.github.com (140.82.121.4): icmp_seq=2 ttl=41 time=426 ms
64 bytes from lb-140-82-121-4-fra.github.com (140.82.121.4): icmp_seq=3 ttl=41 time=435 ms
^C

and I can access the https://github.com/openhab/openhabian/. So the router is not blocking that at all.

:man_shrugging:

I’m not sure what else could cause a “could not resolve host” error.
