Using an old ipad - Unable to switch theme mode

Good day all,

I’m hoping that someone has an answer / work-around for an issue that I am having.

I have an old iPad which does not really get used anymore due to the fact that the ios is no longer getting updated and therefore most apps cannot be updated either. However it does have a version of Chrome and Sarafi installed and so I am able to point to one or more of my ‘Pages’ and use this as a fixed dashboard. [I am using it mainly as a power dashboard displaying grid / solar stats, etc].

My issue is that the versions of Safari / Chrome are that old that, whilst they display the dashboard pages perfectly, I am unable to get them into Dark mode as the standard ‘menu’ cannot be rendered correctly. Clicking on the ‘Help & About’ menu item (so that dark mode can be selected for that device) results in a blank screen and the browser is unable to render the page.

Whilst I could create a copy of the dashboards and hard code all the colours specifically for the iPad to display this seems an unnecessary duplication and results in multiple copies of the pages having to be maintained.

My question is: Is it possible (via a direct link or something?) to get the iPad into Dark mode without the ‘Help & About’ page?

I should say that this is all via the browser using openahb:8080 URL and I am not using the App as this is unable to be installed as it states it requires a minimum of iOS 16 to be installed.

Thanks

Have you tried installing the legacy version 1 of the openHAB iOS/iPadOS app?

Yes I did, but had no luck with that as whilst it opened it just displayed the message that it was in demo mode then just showed a white screen with the ‘burger’ icon top right and nothing else. Clicking the burger had no effect.

Weirdly the iPad just did an update?? Not sure how or why as it has stated its on the ‘latest’ iOS for quite some time now and is on 12.5.8. Not sure if it’s related but going to openhab:8080 on the installed version of Chrome now displays the menu (although it is rendered incorrectly as ‘sidebar.helpAbout’ as the description instead of ‘Help & About’) it can be ‘clicked’ and the page is displayed and so now I am able to chose Dark Mode.

So - issue is resolved, but I’m not quite sure how. This along with the fact that all HABPanel pages still render correctly is now more than enough for my use of the (otherwise unused) old iPad.

Thanks
