I am planning to add zigbee to my openhab installation.
What is the best zigbee dongle to go for now.
I’m using an old HUSZB1 but I think those are all but impossible to find now. It’s a Zwave/Zigbee combo.
The Zwave.me Z-Station looks pretty great as a newer option, but it seems that one too is hard to come by now. This one is a Zwave/Zigbee/Thread combo.
I’ve seen a lot of mention of Sonoff’s Zigbee stick.
To get better support for “sort of” Zigbee devices, a lot of users have been moving to zigbee2mqtt. If you think that’s a way you may head you might look to see what hardware they recommend.
Yeah zigbee2mqtt is pretty great.
I’m using the smlight sm06 dongle. Beast of a device. Poe, wifi or Ethernet mode or usb. Your call.
VPN client, hub mode, auto updates and manual by web ui (that’s very helpful!). Now they also have a version for thread.
Swear to god, for the price it’s a great toy to have.
Oh, the instructions and yaml code is displayed in the webui too. It’s simply too well done.

Mine has never failed. I use zigbee2mqtt and POE and Ethernet.

Wish I found this before I bought my Sonoff stick. But it’s not too late to assume a 20ish EUR loss and move on to greener pastures.

Oh but there’s a bunch of other stuff too. I’ve also used the sonoff zigbee dongle P since it came out early drop, and I never updated the firmware because I needed the serial converter and to find the right firmware version while risking having to recreate my zigbee network.
With this zigbee dongle you can clone the Unique id of your previous one and the devices reconnect to it when you replace it and upgrade worry free. All in all, great thing.
but to be honest that’s also what annoys me. Because they also have an AC dongle compatible with midea air conditioners, and other brands too. And Wled controllers. So… not I have a whole bunch of them
