After 6 years of using my smart installation I make review all my devices and refactoring of software (and upgrade to newest version of Openhab).
In my installation I control many devices and part of my installation is based on Xiaomi sensors (mostly temperatura and door/window sensor).
Because I would like to use my installation for next 20 years I want to be sure that I have spare devices in case of disaster. And my biggest concern is Xiaomi devices. Currently I’m using Xiaomi Gateway (probably v2) and what I see it is not produced
The question what Xiaomi Gateway/Hub work with Xiaomi devices and can be integrated with newest OpenHab?
You do what I did. You dump the xiaomi gateway away because for sure xiaomi won’t be supporting your current devices for 20 years ( xD ) and you connect them directly to OpenHAB through the zigbee binding, or, use zigbee2mqtt (I find it has compatibility with more zigbee devices like the ones from aqara or xiaomi) and baam, you have a stable, locally controlled system.
Now if they survive 20 years of (ab)use… that’s another story…
But what hardware do you use to receive zigbee? I must connect somehow to RPi or it is better if it will be standalone device connected to WiFi/LAN and connected to Rpi via LAN. My Rpi is installed in my garage and it is far from other xiaomi sensors
Ohh now I got your point!
Right só zigbee is a self healing mesh. So it doesn’t matter much how far away it is as long as you:
Have one only network there, then you use one of these:
Or you can have a “train” of zigbee mains connected devices (like lights plugs or relays) which will connect to each other, for example:
Pi + zigbee dongle → zigbee light → zigbee relay → zigbee plug → all of your sensors.
For this, you get one of these:
As I currently have both in my home, I would nudge you towards the first, it’s a very cool device.
