Z-Wave Online Communication Error

I have my first Z-Wave device and it was saying OFFLINE - Communication Error but was working slow and the scroller for the dimmer wouldn’t update. I put a USB extension cord on the Z-Stick and now it is still doing this but switching to ONLINE more frequently and I think it’s holding the place on the scroller when it doesn’t go offline. Should I assume it’s a distance thing?

Z-Stick is in a walk in crawlspace 10 feet away from the stairs in the basement
Then 9 feet up the stairs
Then another 14 feet to the device

If this is the case, how do you make 4 hops to Z-Wave devices on the second floor with such a small range?

Youll need more devices to extend the range, such as the Aeotec Smart Switch which are cheap mains powered devices that can act as a repeater.

Try doing a range test on your device and see what it reports back.
