ZCOMBO repurposed water detector

I have several ZCOMBO smoke detectors that have expired. Some give the 5 chirps indicating end of life. I was wondering if anyone has repurposed any of these to become a water detector as the zwave connection should still work.

Without modifying the firmware on the device I doubt you could get it to show up as anything but a smoke alarm. And I don’t know if modifying the firmware like that is even possible.

Beyond that, if you are OK living with the five chirps repeating periodically forever and you know where to solder some sort of leak detection mechanism to the pins/pads on the circuit board so it triggers the alarm when water is present I say go for it! It’s not like you will be out any money and it could be a good learning exercise.
