Zwave-JS-UI in place of OH Zwave binding

Correct. I’m running Ubuntu 24.04 LTS on the pi. I should’ve mentioned that.

Yeah, I thought that too. Was trying to figure out if there’s any interference. OTOH there’s only 15 ft between where the pi is and the location of the controller when it was plugged into the OH box.

Yes, I did this quite a few times for some nodes, especially the door locks and several of the mains nodes.

Thanks for the tips.

Yes, I get it. I want to get to that point too.

Thanks. I was planning to do that if I run into the same issues on my next try. Just wanted to see if anyone here had a similar experience to me, or knew of something I missed.

Network issue… hmmm.

So I was looking into possible interference issues and…

I have the Z-Stick 7 plugged directly into my pi. It happens to be right next to a USB3-SATA cable that connects to my SSD. And I was just watching a video about interference from SATA cables.

So before I try again, I’ll connect the Z-Stick to a USB extension cable to get it away from the SATA cable.

I also see that my Z-Stick 7 firmware is quite a few versions behind. So I’ll also update it before trying again.

My thinking was; Without digging into the ZW-js code, like anything else in ZW, the ping is probably triggered 3–5 times 5 seconds apart, and once the controller has the command it will try many times (sometimes 10+) and different routes to get an Ack from the device. It seems unlikely that none of your powered devices responded.

Anyway another suggestion, the ZW-JS github is going to want a driver log and that might also help you to spot something too. It is in the gear under ZWave and you should be able to see any activity on the “BUG” tab

Thanks.

I upgraded the firmware in my Z-Stick 7 (it was several revs behind), I grabbed the latest ZWave JS UI (11.1.0), and I got an extension cable to move the Z-Stick away from the pi (and away from the SATA cable).

Everything is working much better now. All my devices have been interviewed and all appear to be working well. It took a few tries with the battery devices but that’s pretty typical. I’ve added all the things in openHAB and mapped all my ZWave items to the new thing channels.

I have a few specific questions/observations that I’ll post over on the ZWaveJS binding thread.

Thanks to everyone here for the help.

Love this. This debug log is very easy to read and understand. It was very helpful to see what was going on.

It is nice viewer! I should have put this in this idea at the beginning, but there generally haven’t been many problems  .

I am having some issues with a wall switch that is sending scenes on double/triple/hold/release.

I see the scenes trigger in Zwave JS UI. I see the scenes trigger in HomeAssistant (which I also have installed but don’t really use unless for some very specific things). Seeing this in HomeAssistans pretty much confirms that Zwave JS UI sends the events.

But in OH I can not see the scenes being received on those channels. The scene channel was created as a number. But it doesn’t seem to receive any updates when I activate scenes via the wall switch. Should it be another type? Is support lacking in OH plugin? Any suggestions?

It looks like this could be your issue:

Yes I just found that thread so I was about to link this thread into there. I agree it sounds very likely.
