Yes, the Miele Cloud binding supports newer devices with Wi-Fi.

Does is work offline (without internet)?

The XGW3000 solution does, but not the new solution.

So given Miele dropped the gateway some years ago and all newer devices are Wi-Fi, does that mean I cannot control devices locally but only ever through the cloud binding (and servers - if working …) ?

If you don’t have an XGW 3000 gateway - yes, that’s what it means.

Some people have been trying to hack the Wi-Fi communication modules to communicate locally/directly, but I haven’t tracked this progress for quite some time and don’t remember on which forum I saw this.
